A Romantic Rathsallagh Wedding for Aine and Shane
There is something undeniably special about a country wedding, and Rathsallagh Country House in Co. Wicklow provides the perfect setting for a day filled with romance, beauty and timeless elegance. For our September Blog post we will be reminiscing about Aine and Shane’s gorgeous celebration of love with family and friends on a beautiful Summer’s day.
The wedding ceremony took place at St Nicholas of Myra Church in Dunlavin, Co. Wicklow, a church with a fascinating history and a strong connection to the local community. For a wedding, the church offered a wonderful sense of tradition and significance before the celebrations continued at Rathsallagh. The combination of a historic church ceremony followed by a relaxed country house reception created a beautiful flow to the day, bringing together the heritage of the local area with the romance of a Rathsallagh wedding.
For the wedding flowers, we chose a soft and romantic combination of roses, hydrangeas, lisianthus and hypericum berries. The palette was designed to feel abundant and elegant with a classic edge.
Roses were an obvious choice for a wedding, traditionally representing love, romance and beauty. Hydrangeas added the volume but also the softness. The delicate form of lisianthus brought a lighter, more graceful element to the arrangements; they have a romantic quality without overpowering the other flowers. Finally, the addition of hypericum berries introduced texture and movement, bringing a more natural, organic feel to the floral arrangements.
Together, these flowers created a romantic yet natural look, with the softness of the blooms balanced by the texture of the berries.
For us as wedding florists, Rathsallagh House is a dream venue to work in. The natural beauty of the estate provides such a wonderful backdrop for flowers, whether they are being used to soften the elegant interiors, dress the ceremony or complement the gardens outside. There is a sense of intimacy and tranquillity at Rathsallagh that makes it particularly special for weddings, while the exclusivity of the venue means that the entire day feels like a celebration created especially for the couple and their guests. With decades of experience hosting weddings and a dedicated team on hand, the venue offers not only beautiful surroundings but the relaxed atmosphere and attention to detail that allow couples to truly enjoy their day.
The beautiful photography was captured by Shane of SOSAC Photography. Shane and Adele are the duo behind the business and describe SOSAC as creating honest and artistic images that capture the tiny moments of great importance, and this approach is particularly evident in Shane’s documentary-style wedding photography.
Based in Cork and Waterford, SOSAC Photography is available for weddings throughout Ireland and destination weddings worldwide. Shane’s photography is natural, unobtrusive and full of feeling. Rather than asking couples to spend their wedding day constantly posing for the camera, he quietly documents the story as it happens—capturing the laughter, emotions, little details and spontaneous moments that can so easily be missed. His website describes his approach as documentary photography, with the aim of allowing couples to enjoy their day while he blends into the background and captures the genuine moments as they unfold.
His use of light, composition, colour and timing gives the photographs an artistic quality while still allowing the images to feel completely authentic to each couple. This was a beautiful match for Rathsallagh, where the gardens, historic surroundings and changing natural light provide so many opportunities for atmospheric photographs. The result is a collection of images that doesn’t simply show what the wedding looked like, but brings back the feeling of the day; the people, the emotion, the flowers, the surroundings and all those little moments that make a wedding uniquely yours.
The most memorable wedding flowers and photographs are the ones that become part of the story. Wishing all the love and happiness to Aine and Shane on their new future together as Husband and Wife.
