A Striking Wedding filled with Pops of Colour for Hannah & Donal at Martinstown House in Kildare.
For June’s Blog post, we will highlighting the fabulous wedding of Hannah & Donal which took place at Martinstown House in Kildare; a day filled with so much colour and fun; it was a joy to work on. Martinstown House is one of those underated venues that I love working at.
Martinstown House is a privately owned country estate located on the edge of the The Curragh in County Kildare. Dating back to the 1730s, it began as a farmhouse before being transformed & redesigned by renowned Victorian architect Decimus Burton in a distinctive Strawberry Gothic “cottage ornée” style, creating the romantic architecture that defines the property today.
Martinstown House combines historic character with modern luxury. The property offers exclusive-use stays, giving guests the feeling of being welcomed into an elegant private home. It is set within approximately 140 acres of parkland, gardens and mature woodland, the estate is home to a bird sanctuary, organic kitchen gardens, a formal Italian garden and beautifully restored outdoor spaces that create an atmosphere of tranquillity and exclusivity.
The interiors reflect the property’s heritage, featuring elegant reception rooms, antique furnishings, roaring fireplaces and carefully curated artwork, while the gardens and woodland provide countless picturesque settings throughout the estate.
Martinstown House has earned a reputation as one of Ireland’s most distinctive wedding venues because it offers something beyond the traditional hotel experience. Every wedding is held on an exclusive-use basis, meaning couples and their guests enjoy complete privacy throughout the celebration.
Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all package, the team works with couples to create weddings that reflect their personalities, whether that’s a grand marquee celebration, an intimate gathering or a relaxed garden party. Weddings range from as few as 12 guests to over 250. Couples can choose from several ceremony settings including the woodland ceremony space, formal gardens, lawns or inside the historic house, giving flexibility regardless of style or weather.
The property can host all types of ceremonies from HSE civil ceremonies to Humanists, Spiritualists, and all others should you wish but there is also a beautiful non-denominational church less than 1 mile away; St. Paul’s Ballysax. Additionally there are also several churches nearby such as the Church of the Sacred Heart in Kilcullen, the Carmelite Friary in Kildare and St. Brigid’s Cathedral in Kildare.
Ultimately, Martinstown House appeals to couples seeking a wedding that feels less like a hotel function and more like an unforgettable celebration in a private country estate.
For Hannah & Donal’s wedding flowers; we went with a mixture of Hydrangeas, Dahlia, Achilea, Tulips, Ranunculus, Lisianthus and Peony Roses. I adore the colour combination of the bouquets against the burnt orange of the bridesmaids dresses.
These stunning moments of Hannah & Donal’s first looks in the walled gardens to their outdoor ceremony in the woodlands to dinner and dancing in the marquee; were all captured by photographer Aidan Beatty.
Aidan is an award-winning wedding photographer based in Kildare, Ireland, renowned for his natural, documentary-style approach. Rather than staging moments, Aidan focuses on capturing the genuine emotions, connections, and atmosphere that make each wedding unique. His relaxed presence allows couples to enjoy their day while he quietly documents the laughter, tears, and meaningful interactions that become treasured memories. Passionate about family, relationships, and storytelling, Aidan creates timeless images that reflect not just how a wedding looked, but how it truly felt.
